Professor Ir. Dr. Hilmi bin Mukhtar received his B.Eng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from University of Wales Swansea, United Kingdom in 1990. He then continued his postgraduate studies at the same university where he earned MSc and PhD in 1991 and 1995, respectively. He has vast experience in teaching, research, consultancy, and administration. He is currently serving as the Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. In research, he has been participating in many research projects funded by Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation Malaysia (MOSTI), Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE), Petroleum Research Fund (PRF) and University Internal Research Fund. His research interest is in membrane technology which includes development, modeling, and application for separation processes in gas and liquid systems. He has graduated 18 postgraduate students, and many more on- going candiature. He has published more than 150 papers in journals, seminars, conference proceedings and bulletins at the national and international levels. In his consultancy, he has designed teaching and research laboratories as well as equipment for education and research institutions.
